Coronavirus Ranks No.1 On Google Search

Coronavirus is currently the No.1 searched term on Google. People are actively looking for information to help them in these dire times. We put together this guide to help our community fight the Coronavirus pandemic.

What is Coronavirus? Where did it originate?

Coronavirus (COVID-19) started as a mystery illness in Wuhan, China. It has since then been identified as a respiratory illness that originated in a wet market in Wuhan, where the virus jumped from animals to humans. The animal source of this outbreak is thought to be bats. It then spread from bats to other animals, and finally reached humans.

How many people have died from coronavirus?

It is estimated that there has been a total of 114,422 Coronavirus cases documented around the world to date. Of this number, 46,314 are active cases being treated while 68,108 are closed cases. 64,081 people have been treated successfully and recovered, while 4,027 cases resulted in death. For more information on the outbreak and to see the number of cases and deaths in each country, visit the world ometer website.

How does Coronavirus spread?

The Coronavirus can spread from person to person through droplets of saliva or mucus that can travel up to six feet when a person coughs or sneezes. It can also be transmitted through physical contacts, such as shaking hands, touching or sharing a drink with an infected person.

What Are the Precautions to Be Taken to Stay Safe?

  • Wash hands or use sanitizer after any surface contact (petrol station, shops, ATMs, contact with people. etc). Wash your hands for 20 seconds or longer and make sure you get between the fingers and under your nails to get rid of any germs lurking there.
  • Avoid touching, kissing and hugging anyone for a period of time including family until it is safe to do so.
  • Stay away from congregations, church, shopping centers, public events, etc.
  • Be mindful of others coughing and sneezing around you.
  • Stock up on your medications. With medicines flying off the shelves, it’s a smart idea to stock up on any pain killers or other prescribed medications that you might need.
  • People who have upper respiratory illnesses and other underlying conditions such as heart disease, lung disease, diabetes or a weak or compromised immune system need to be even more cautious. Avoid traveling by public transport if you can.

What to Do If You Suspect You’re Infected?

If you’re feeling unwell, don’t risk going to work. You might put others at risk by doing so. Inform your employer and request to work from home. Call your doctor and tell them that you suspect that you’re infected. Follow the doctor’s instructions. If you must leave your home to go see the doctor, make sure you wear a surgical mask to protect others.

IMPORTANT: If you have severe symptoms, call 000 for urgent medical assistance.
